One feature that helps to do this is the Automated Notification of Product/Reorder Point Levels.
The system watches all inventory-related activity associated to a product. It knows when an order has been placed, picked or shipped. It knows when inventory has been scrapped. It knows when there has been an adjustment made due to a cycle count.
The system will compare that data to the reorder point level for a product (the reorder point level may be a static number, or based on a usage calculation).
If the inventory count for a product has approached it’s reorder point level, the system can automatically notify the appropriate parties.
For example, it may generate and send an email directly to the customer that owns that product. The email will provide all the details necessary to help that customer make a decision on whether additional inventory should be shipped or printed at the warehouse.
