An Ancient Artifact – The Hand-Written Envelope
Jason Pinto of interlinkONE recently got an envelope in the mail that stopped him in his tracks. Why you may ask?…It was a hand-written envelope which is defiantly a rarity these days. Inside the envelope had a very unique marketing tactic in it. Watch the video below to see what was in the envelope. And to also see how just a little extra effort of hand writting an envelope got alot attention.
This marketing piece was sent from Merchants Auto in Hooksett, NH.

I have received this junk mail a number of times over the last couple of years. Mail like this is infuriating. First of all, there is no return address. After opening it, looking it over, and realizing it’s just junk mail from a car dealership, it makes me mad that I just wasted more than 5 seconds on a piece of unsolicited junk mail. The impact of this mailer from my point of view is exactly the opposite of what they want. I will go out of my way to NOT give them my business.
I will agree that the hand-written post-it note is a nice touch, but it should be applied in a more meaningful way that doesn’t risk ticking off your recipients. I’d love to know what kind of response rates this piece gets for them.
Hi Matt,
Thanks very much for leaving a comment.. Sorry it took a little while for it to get posted — it was stuck in “spam”. But we updated our CAPTCHA plug-in last night, so that should help resolve that issue.
I definitely understand your viewpoint on having a negative impression of this mailer. When I talked to the dealership, they mentioned that other people also took to it less than kindly.
I will still say this though – it is, by far, the most memorable piece of mail I have received in months.
Thanks again for the note!
Jason
