When you are diving into the world of mobile marketing, there are a few things you need to have on your to-do list. These things shouldn’t be optional. They should be considered a must in order for you to make the impact and get your return on investment.

This is the first of a three-part series on mobile marketing must-haves you need when you are crafting a strategy. Check back on this blog next week to see the next three!

1. Mobile Optimization

You need a mobile friendly site or app. No, you don’t need both, thought that may actually be a good idea. But you need “something” that will engage your customers via their mobile devices. If you’ve ever looked up a website on your smartphone or tablet, you know the frustration that goes in hand with trying to navigate something that is meant for larger laptop and desktop screens.

2. Relevant Content

You need to make your mobile content relevant. So, you have a mobile friendly site. That’s great. But do you really need to put your company history on there? If your audience is on the go (which they typically are when accessing your site on a mobile device), then they are looking for something specific. Directions, contact information, hours or operation, discounts, etc. Relevant content makes the contact via mobile marketing worth their time and helps to build that relationship.

3. Location, Location, Location

Utilize location-based marketing. One of the cool features of mobile devices is that they divulge their location. Use this to your advantage. Ever heard of the phrase “strike while the iron is hot”? Well, this is the time when you want to take advantage of the situation. When your customer is near, it’s smart to jump on that and entice them with a discount or special offering.
